The Embassy of Finland organized a seminar in Abu Dhabi on May 9th, 2017, themed ''Finland-country of innovations''. The theme of the seminar exmined how innovations have played a role in Finlands 100 years of independence. The seminar which was directed to the students at the University also welcomed policymakers as well as representatives from other Universities and businesses. Finland and the United Arab Emirates share an interest in innovations and the promotion of innovations in different sectors.
Ambassador Riitta Swan opened the seminar by presenting statistics, pictures and stories about Finland. Next to take the stage was the glowing example of Finnish innovativeness, Nokia, represented by Mohamed Abdelrehim(Head of Market Solutions). He spoke about Nokia’s faces and accomplishments in connection to Finland’s years of independence. A presentation about social innovativeness and the measures taken by the current administration to promote social innovativeness followed. Annukka Berg from the Prime Minister’s office presented the Experimental Finland- initiative. The strengthening of experimental culture in Finland is one of Prime Minister Juha Sipilä’s administration’s top initiatives. The purpose is to find innovative solutions in services and the government. The speeches sparked lively conversations, which were continued in the coffee session after the seminar.
